How to unlock the power of SEO

Introduction

If you want to improve your website's search engine optimization (SEO), you need to know the basics. We'll cover everything from keywords and titles to alt tags and meta descriptions so that you can create a solid foundation for all of your future SEO efforts.

Start with the right keywords

Keywords are the words you use to describe your product or service, and they're important because they help you rank higher in search results. For example, if you're an accountant who specializes in tax preparation and have a website with an article on how to file a 1040 form, then “1040 form” is a keyword because it's relevant to the topic of your article (filing taxes). Keywords should be specific enough so that people searching for this information will find it quickly, but broad enough that they can also apply across many other industries or subjects.

If there aren't any good keywords available for what you want to write about--or if too many other sites already use them--then consider using synonyms instead! For example: Instead of writing about “how do I file my taxes?” try something like “how do I file my income taxes?” Or perhaps even better: “what documents do I need when filing taxes?”

Use the right image size

You also need to make sure that your images are the correct size. At least 600 pixels wide is a good rule of thumb, but if you're using an aspect ratio that's different from the standard 16:9 (like a square image), then you'll want to use a different size.

If possible, use the same file type for all of your images: PNGs or JPEGs are both great options and will work well in most cases. However, if one format produces better results than another on a specific website or device (for example, PNGs tend to load faster than JPEGs), then it might be worth experimenting with different formats until you find which works best for each situation at hand

Use the right title

When writing your title, it's important to make sure that it's relevant to the content of your post. If you're writing about SEO and keyword research, then using those words in your title will be much more effective than using "How I Got My Dog To Stop Barking" or something else that doesn't have anything to do with that topic.

However, don't go overboard on keyword stuffing! You don't want every single one of your titles sounding like they were written by an algorithm; they should sound natural instead (which means no repeating keywords). Also keep in mind that not every article needs its own unique title--you can just use variations on a theme by changing up some words here and there:

Include your keywords in a meta description that is both relevant to your business and intriguing to readers.

Meta descriptions are the first thing people see when they search for something on Google. They should be between 150 and 160 characters, and they should be relevant to the content on your page. You can use keywords in meta descriptions, but don't make them spammy or keyword stuffed. If you do this too much, Google will penalize you by ranking your site lower in its search results because it's seen as being spammy.

Include one or two short sentences that include a couple of keywords related to what people would be searching for if they clicked through from Google's SERPs (search engine results pages).

Add alt tags, which describe the images on your website.

Alt tags are an important part of SEO, as they help search engines understand what each image on your website is about. These tags should be unique from other images on your site and relevant to the picture in question.

If you want to add alt tags for every image on your site (which we recommend), it's best practice to keep them between 50–60 characters long. You can use this Google tool that shows how many words fit into different spaces on the page so that you don't make them too long or too short!

Optimize your website for mobile devices.

It's more important than ever to optimize your website for mobile devices. This means making sure that all your pages load quickly, are readable on a small screen, and are easy to navigate. For example, if you have a lot of text-heavy content, you might want to consider using a tool like Shortstack (a free online editor) so that visitors can easily digest the information without having to scroll through tons of text on their phones or tablets.

Another important thing is making sure your website is optimized for mobile devices by using responsive design (RWD). RWD allows websites with different layouts depending on what device they're being viewed from--so if someone visits from their desktop computer or laptop at work or home but then uses their phone later in the day when commuting home from work or school, then they'll still see an optimized version designed specifically for viewing on small screens such as smartphones' browser windows!

Create an editorial calendar and stick to it.

Create an editorial calendar and stick to it. A good SEO strategy should include a solid editorial calendar. This will help you plan out your content for the next month or so, and ensure that you're publishing quality content on a regular basis.

Once you've got an idea of what topics you want to cover, it's time to start writing! If possible, try splitting up the work between different writers so that no one person has too much on their plate at once (and also, so they don't get bored). Your goal should be at least one new blog post per week--more if possible!
